ARMY WOMEN’S LACROSSE QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS -- April 22, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. – Army women’s lacrosse beat three teams last weekend that they had not been able to solve during the regular season to earn an automatic berth in the national tournament in Denver May 7-10.

Women's lacrosse traveled to Kingston, R.I., to play in the East Coast Women’s Lacrosse Association league championship tournament April 19-20, where West Point edged Delaware 11-10 in the first round April 19 then turned around and beat New York University 11-8 later that same day.  NYU was fresh after having a first-round bye.

Sunday Army (10-2-1) played the University of Rhode Island in the championship, the only other team to beat the Black Knights this season and probably the strongest team Army faced all year.  Army took an early lead and held on to win 11–8.

Army will host Air Force (Noon) and Coast Guard (2 p.m.) May 3 at Daly Field.
