WEST POINT UNVEILES FIRST RENOVATED HOME – June 17, 2009
WEST POINT, N.Y. –West Point and Balfour Beatty Communities unveiled the first completed historic home renovation, as part of the Department of the Army’s Residential Communities Initiative to bring high-quality housing to service members and their families, here yesterday, in the Old Brick housing area at 10 a.m.
In keeping with the Army’s theme “The Year of the Non-commissioned Officer” it was fitting that the first home be occupied by an NCO and his family. Senior Army officials and BBC representatives will be on hand to reveal the aspects of the renovation that help retain the historic significance and integrity of West Point, while enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
The newly renovated home is a conversion of two small three-bedroom homes into one spacious four-bedroom home that features two and one-half baths, a fully-equipped modern kitchen, central heat and air conditioning and plenty of storage space.
The majority of the development project that began in August 2008 will entail the historic renovation of 377 homes, consisting of the 195 quarters and conversion of 182 duplex homes into 91 single family homes.
Remarks were made by Col. Dan Bruno, West Point garrison commander; Command Sgt. Maj. Martin Wells, West Point’s CSM; Brad Collier, area project director, BBC; William Sweeney, vice president, BBC, as well as the Pickwell family members.
