The Army men took the top two spots in three events and freshman Anna Diko tied the school record in the pole vault on the women’s side at the USMA Invitational in Gillis Field House Saturday. The non-team scoring Invitational was the final tune-up for the men and women as they get ready for the Penn State Invitational today and Saturday.

Diko qualified for the ECACs with her jump of 10 feet, 10 inches in the pole vault. She tied the academy record set by junior teammate Erica Clanton in the first meet of the season in November. She was one of two first-place finishers on the evening. Sophomore Lauren Bolte won the pentathlon with a cumulative score of 3066.

The men took the top two spots in the pole vault, shot put and weight throw. Junior Chris Bowen and senior Chad Klascius cleared 15-9 and 15-3 respectively in the pole vault. Senior John Ruch and junior Karl Nilsen were the top two Army finishers in the shot put. Ruch added half an inch to his toss of 52 feet from a week ago at the USMA Open. Sophomore Alberto Castro and junior Dan Presutti took top honors in the weight throw. Castro reached 53-8 1/4 while Presutti threw the weight 51-11 3/4.

Junior Greg Londo, freshman Ahren Reiter and both relay teams were the other four winners on the men’s side. Londo took the first-place ribbon in the 800-meter dash, finishing in 2:00.48. Reiter took the 5,000m in 15:57.24. Juniors Omari Thompson and Calvin Smith each turned in two top-six performances themselves. Thompson was second in the 200m and sixth in the 55m. Smith beat Thompson by .03 with a time of 6.63 in the 55m finishing fifth. He also placed fifth in the 200m. Army’s men also dominated the 3,000m run sweeping places two through five.

On the women’s side, senior Jamie Glassford brought home two third places, in the 55m and the 200m, and a second place in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/2 . Teammate Carlys Romano was second in the shot put at 45-5 3/4.
