Volunteers needed for Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be held July 9-13 at the West Point Elementary School. This fun-filled, week-long program is for children in kindergarten through fifth-grade. Volunteers are needed to help make this program the best it can be. Many positions are available. Some require training, which will be provided. If interested in being a VBS volunteer, call the Post Chapel at 938-2003.

Mass schedule change

The Most Holy Trinity Chapel at West Point Mass schedule through Aug. 12 is Saturday, 5:15 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m.

Summer reading program planned

The post library’s summer reading program, a six-week program designed to keep children reading throughout the summer months, starts June 18 and runs through July 20. It is open to all West Point community children ages three to 12. Registration is from Monday through June 13. For more information, call 938-2974.

Volunteer opportunity

The National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games will be held in New York City July 1-5. They are seeking volunteers to help in numerous areas from transportation to help with games like bowling, basketball, softball and track-and-field events. Ball field/play area -- Stony II

DHPW housing has contracted to have the ball field/play area at Stony II watered. The watering will take place every Monday during June, July and August from 6 to 10 a.m. During this time period, the ball field will be closed.

Red Flag Program

The Red Flag Program in housing areas has been cancelled. Personnel who normally respond to the red flag will be temporarily reassigned to support the maintenance in vacant quarters during the summer rotation. The Red Flag Program should return in September.

Sunday brunches at Club

The West Point Club will have a Father’s Day Sunday brunch June 17 and all fathers will receive a 20-percent discount. Seatings will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. For more information or to make reservations, call 938-5120.

Army birthday celebration

To open this year’s "Music Under the Skies" concert series, the civic band from Allentown, Pa., and the USMA Concert Band will be featured Sunday starting at 7 p.m. with an Army birthday ceremony. A concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Each band will play featured selections on their own before combining for the two final selections.

Tour West Point from Hudson

Dr. Steve Grove, USMA historian, will conduct a tour of West Point from the Hudson River ferryboat for the last event of this year’s Earth Day/Historic Preservation program June 16 starting at 1:30 p.m.. The event is free and food and beverages are allowed on board. It is open to the first 100 to sign up. Reserve your spot by calling 938-4407.

Leopoldville survivors to hold reunion

There will be a reunion of the Leopoldville survivors at Fort Benning, Ga., Sept. 13-16. More than 100 survivors are already planning to attend. Point of contact is retired Lt. Col. Jack C. Randles at 1304 Stonewall Lane, Fallston, Md., or calling 410-879-8403.

DHPW has compiled the annual water-quality report for 2000 and it is available on the USMA Web site at www.usma.edu/dhpw (under announcements) or by contacting the Environmental Management Branch at 938-3224.

Sierra appointment line tips

The appointment lines for Sierra Military Health Systems are open Mon.-Fri. from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sat. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Calling at 6:05 a.m. to book an appointment is not the best time to call. According to the Keller appointment officer, Mondays and Tuesdays are peak volume times. The best time to call is from 4:30 to 8 p.m., Monday-Friday or anytime on Saturday. To book an appointment in the civilian network, call during normal business hours.

Hospital parking lots to be worked on

The upper and lower hospital parking lots are scheduled for upgrades Monday through Aug. 24. The work consists of removing the existing asphalt, repaving and striping the lots. It will be performed in phases. Follow the signs in the hospital lots for directions on where to park.

Childbirth classes to begin

Keller Army Community Hospital is sponsoring a series of childbirth classes starting Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the 2nd- floor dining facility. Call the obstetrics unit at 938-3210/2364 to register.
