West Point names Dole as 2004 Thayer Award recipient
The Association of Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy has named former Senator Robert Dole as this year’s Thayer Award recipient. Dole will be honored here Sept. 29 with a cadet review on the Plain at 5 p.m., followed by a presentation ceremony. The public is invited to attend the review.

West Point holds annual Buffalo Soldiers ceremony
Ominous gray skies couldn’t spoil the celebration of the 42nd annual Buffalo Soldier Memorial Ceremony at Buffalo Soldier Field Sunday to honor the members of the famed 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments.

Scouts visit Assateqgue
Twenty scouts and ten family members from West Point Boy Scout Troop 23 traveled almost 300 miles last month to Assateague Island State Park, Md. Assistant Scoutmaster Bill Bland organized the trip which ran from Aug. 27 to 29.

Accomplished junior saberist Weinbaum helps
When Mariel Zagunis won the gold medal in women’s saber at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens it gave American fencers a lot to be excited about by showing that not only is the sport prevalent throughout the country, but thriving as well.

Black Knight walk to debut Saturday
Army fans will have an opportunity to send the Black Knights off to battle in style before home contests this season with the introduction of the “Black Knight Walk.”
