Brigadier
General Robert L. Caslen, Jr. was commissioned as a Lieutenant
of Infantry from the United States Military Academy (USMA),
Class of 1975. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of
Science from USMA, a Masters Degree in Business Administration
from Long Island University (CW Post), and a Masters of Science
from Kansas State University. His military education includes
Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, U.S. Army Command
and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
His Army service
includes Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Mortar
Platoon Leader and Company Commander in the 9th INF
Division; Brigade S-4, Battalion Executive Officer (during
Desert Shield/Desert Storm), and Brigade S-3 in the 101st
ABN Division (AASLT). He served in several positions on the
faculty at West Point, including Army Football Coach and Company
Tactical Officer, and as an Operations Research Officer at
Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. He also served as the Senior Brigade C-2
Observer/Controller at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort
Polk, Louisiana. General Caslen commanded the 1-14 INF
Battalion in the 25th INF Division, and 2nd
Brigade of the 101st ABN Division (AASLT), and served
as the Chief of Staff for both the 101st ABN Division
(AASLT) and the 10th Mountain Division. He also
served as the Assistant Division Commander for Maneuver for the
3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized).
General Caslen's
joint positions include the Director, J-3, Joint Task Force
Bravo in Honduras, as the Executive Officer to the Commander of
the Multi-National Forces, and then to the Commander of the U.S.
Forces United Nations Command during Operations Restore and
Uphold Democracy. In support of the Global War on Terrorism, he
served as the Assistant Deputy Director for Strategy and Policy,
J-5 on the Joint Staff, and then as Chief of Staff of the
Coalition Joint Task Force Mountain, 10th Mountain
Division in Baghram Afghanistan.
His most recent
assignment was the Deputy Director for the War on Terrorism,
within the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate (J-5), The
Joint Staff. In this position, he provided strategic, policy,
and planning guidance in support of the Global War on Terrorism,
to include Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction and Detainees.
General Caslen
returns to the United States Military Academy to assume command
of the United States Corps of Cadets as the 70th
Commandant of Cadets.
General Caslen's
awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service
Medal, Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious
Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service
Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War
on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Joint
Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Joint
Meritorious Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the
Ranger Tab, the Parachutist's Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and
the Combat Infantryman's Badge. |
