Coach John Pike

Coach John Pike enters his 32nd year in the coaching profession (24th @ USMAPS) this July 2008. Coach Pike is a 1973 graduate of All Saints Central High School in Bay City, Michigan.  He earned 1st team (Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, AP, & UPI) All State Basketball honors his senior season while leading the team to the MHSAA Class B semi finals. He was the Bay City scoring champion during the 1972 and 1973 seasons averaging 25 and 28 ppg respectively.  Coach Pike is a 1975 graduate of Delta College (University Center, Michigan) where he served as team captain and earned All League honors for the Men’s Basketball team. In 1977 Coach Pike earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Physical Education from Hillsdale College (Hillsdale, Michigan) and served as team captain for the Men’s Basketball team. In 1983 he earned his Master of Science degree (Physical Education) from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Coach Pike began his coaching career in 1977 as Boys and Girls Basketball Coach and Boys and Girls Junior High Track and Field Coach for the Bad Axe (Michigan) Public Schools. In 1981 Coach Pike guided the Girls Varsity basketball team to the only District championship in school history.  The 1981 Girls Basketball team completed that season as MHSAA Class C Regional finalists.  Coach Pike's next coaching stop was Assistant Basketball Coach @ Division I Houston Baptist University. In 1984 HBU won both the Trans American conference & tournament championships. The later championship qualified HBU for the 1984 NCAA Tournament.

In 1985 Coach Pike was named the Head Men's Basketball & Head Men's & Women's Track & Field coach@ the United States Military Academy Prep School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. During that time Coach Pike has garnered a 258-140 coaching record for the men’s basketball program and guided the Black Knights to 23 consecutive winning seasons (including 9 PENN RELAY Independent Prep School Championships) in the Track & Field program. More importantly, Coach Pike has had a tremendous impact in both the Men's Basketball and Men's & Women's Track and Field programs @ USMA sending numerous Cadet Candidates to those respective programs.  In 1988 Coach Pike spent a season coaching professional basketball where he served as Assistant Basketball Coach for the Jersey Shore Bucs and Head Coach Henry Bibby.  The Jersey Shore Bucs competed in the United States Basketball League. That Bucs team sent Eddie Lee Wilkins and AJ Wynder on to the NBA. In the Fall of 2005 Coach Pike was also named Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach @ USMAPS. During that time he has sent several runners up to USMA and its highly regarded Men’s and Women’s Cross Country program.

Coach Pike is the Associate Director of Athletics @ USMAPS in charge of 11 Division I feeder programs and 3 athletic club teams for USMA. Coach Pike has published numerous articles in national coaching periodicals and conducted individual and team coaching clinics for high schools in the Northeast and Midwest throughout his coaching career. Coach Pike and his wife Betsy have one daughter, Elizabeth, who is majoring in Elementary Education and English at Monmouth University.  The Pike’s reside in Eatontown, New Jersey.
