Saturday 1 September, 2007---Greetings once again from the Army Prep Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams. The Black Knights competed in the Army Open @ the West Point Golf Course on Friday 31 August. Competing teams were Army, Army Prep, Seton Hall University, Marist College, and the Merchant Marine Academy. The women ranthe4k course and the menthe6k courseas it was the season opener for all the teams. The competition and course, as always,were very tough.The weather was warm, but pleasant. It was a great experience for our teams and gives each of our runners a base to build on as the season progresses.The full team results are posted on www.goarmysports.com.

The Army Prep women were led by Abby Novak's impressive 8th place finish in a time of 16:56.7. The Army Prep men were led by Blake Boyd (23:33.7), Travis Gfiffin (23:54.4), and Sean Robinson (24:26.5) respectively.Next up for the Army Prep harriers will be the Cumberland CC Invitational in Vineland, NJ nextSaturday September 8th. The running will begin @ 1000 hours.


CUMBERLAND CC INVITATIONAL
8 SEP 2007

Sunday 9 September, 2007---The Army Prep Men and Women harriers competed in the Cumberland CC Invitational on Saturday 8 September. The meet was held @ South Vineland Park in Vineland, NJ. Weather was hot and humid with a nice breeze (86*). Competition was excellent with 9 women's teams and 12 men's teams. Courseconsisted ofsandy trails (80%), grass (10%), and roads (10%) making for tough running conditions. The Black Knight women finished in second place overall running the 5k. The Black Knight men finished fourth overall running their first college distance 8k. Much experience was gained by both Army Prep teams as they continue their adjustments to college competition. STEVEN'S INSTITUTE INVITATIONAL

Saturday 22 September, 2007---The Army Prep Men's and Women's  Cross Country teams competed in the 12th annual Stevens Institute Invitational at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ.  The weather was perfect and the backdrop of the NYC skyline and Statue of Liberty made for awesome running conditions.  Competing teams were Army Prep, Stevens Institute, Essex CC, Middlesex CC, Ramapo, Farmingdale State, FDU-Florham, Rutgers/Newark, Vassar, Concordia, and New Jersey City University.  The Black Knight women took 4th place team honors running the 6k course. 

This performance was highlighted by Meg-Ann Braun's 2nd place overall finish in a time of 26:05.  Meg-Ann continues to improve as her season opening injuries are healing.  Ariel Espinoza-Levy finished 19th overall in a time of 31:13 to round out the Army Prep lady harriers.  The Black Knight men took 4th place team honors, as well, running the 8k course.  Leading the way once again was Blake Boyd with a season best time of 29:06.  Next for the Black Knights was Travis Griffin's 13th place finish in 30:18.  Rounding out the Army Prep men harriers were Sean Robinson (16th-30:24) and Ben Ordiway (19th-30:48).  All official meet results are @ www.eliteracingsystems.com.

Next up for the Black Knigths will be the Paul Short Open hosted by fellow Patriot League member Lehigh University on Friday 28 September.  The running will begin at 2:10 and the competition will be top shelf.


PAUL SHORT OPEN

Sunday 30 September, 2007---The  Army Prep Men's and Women's Cross Country teams ran in Paul Short Open hosted by Lehigh University.  It was an awesome experience because of the number of schools running and the level of competition.  The Army Prep Black Knights also got to link up with their counterparts from Army for the entire day!  Leading the way for the prepster women was Abby Navak with a 24:28 6k.  On the men's side (8k) the prepsters were led by Blake Boyd (29:18), Travis Griffin (30:27), Sean Robinson (31:53), and Dexter Booze (33:03).  Please find the official results @ www.paulshortxcrun.com

Next up for the Black Knights will be Navy Prep @ the NETC in Newport, RI.  The running will start @ 2:00 PM on Friday 5 October. 


MAPS/NAPS DUAL MEET

@ NETC Newport, RI

Friday 5 October, 2007---The Army Prep Men's & Women's Cross Country teams competed in the annual MAPS/NAPS dual meet @ the NETC in Newport, RI.  As always, this meet brought out some excellent performances and the Black Knight harriers had several from both the men & women.  Final team scores for the women were NAPS 21-MAPS 41 and for the men NAPS 21-MAPS 34. 

The Army Prep women were led once again by Abby Novak.  Novak finished first overall covering the 5k course in 20:04.  Helping out the Black Knight cause was Ariel Espinosa-Levy with a time of 25:54. 

The Army Prep men were led once again by Blake Boyd.  Boyd rounded the 8k course in 27:40 to finish 3rd while continuing to improve as the season progresses.  Assisting Boyd was Travis Griffin finishing in 6th place with a time of 29:31.  Next up for the Black Knights was Ben Ordiway with a season best time of 29:44 and a 7th place finish overall.   Sean Robinson took 8th place honors with a time of 30:15 while Dexter Booze came in 10th place with a time of 30:59.  

The Black Knights will be back in action on Saturday 13 October @ Holmdel Park when they host the 14th annual Army Prep Invitational.  The women will start the running off @ 1030 with the men to follow @ 1115.  This will be an excellent meet on an outstanding cross country course.  Competing teams will be Army Prep, Navy Prep, Middlesex CC, Cumberland CC, and Bergen CC.  All teams entered are having outstanding seasons so the running will be extremely competitive.


ARMY PREP INVITATIONAL

@ Holmdel, NJ

The 14th Annual Army Prep Invitational had a beautiful Fall weather day and six teams in this years competition.  The Men's competition was won by Navy Prep, followed by Army Prep, Middlesex CC, and Cumberland CC. 

The Women's invite was won by Navy Prep with Army Prep taking runner up honors.  Once again Abby Novak took first place honors in the women's 5k race winning by a 1:08 margin in a time of 20:27. 

Leading the way for the men were Blake Boyd and Travis Griffin with 8k times of 30:22.0 and 30:29.1 respectively.  Ben Ordiway and Sean Robinson finished 10th and 11th respectively in times of 30:46.3 and 31:13.1.  Special thanks to the Army Prep Track team members for asssisting with the running of the meet!  You can find the complete results @ www.eliteracingsystems.com

Next up for the Black Knights will be Valley Forge Military Academy on Saturday 20 October.  The dual meet will be held at Holmdel Park in conjunction with our 2007 Fall Parents Weekend.  Start time will be 1030 hours with the men and women starting together, but running the 8k and 5k courses respectively.


ARMY PREP vs. Valley Forge Jr. College

Saturday 20 0ctober, 2007---The Army Prep Men's and Women's Cross Country teams hosted Valley Forge Military Academy Junior College at Holmdel Park.  This meet coincided with our annual Fall Parents Weekend and we had many parents, family, and friends attend the meet.  The weather conditions were perfect with mostly sunny skies and the temperature at 70*. 

Abby Novak led the Army Prep women with yet another first place finish, covering the Holmdel Park 5k course in 21:34.  Ariel Espinoza-Levy placed second in a time of 26:32.  Rounding out the top 3 finishers for Army Prep was Melissa Niehus with a season PR of 27:09.

The Army Prep men were led once again by Blake Boyd's first place finish.  Boyd covered the Homdel Park 8k course in 30:20.  Coming in second place was Sean Robinson with a time of 31:16.  3rd place belonged to Travis Griffin with a time of 32:58.  Ben Ordiway finished in 4th place with a time of 33:17.  Finishing 6th was Dexter Booze in a time of 34:15.  The Black Knight men just missed a perfect team score of 15 taking first place team honors with 16. 

The Black Knights will resume action on 2 November when they host the Army Prep Open @ Holmdel Park.  The Army Plebes will oce again make there annual visit to take part in the meet.  The running will begin at 1530 hours with the men and women both running the 5k course.


ARMY PREP OPEN

Friday 2 November, 2007--The Army Prep Open was held at Holmdel Park Friday afternoon.  The weather was sunny and the temperature perfect.  Competing teams were Army Prep, the Army Plebes, and the Shore AC.  It is always a pleasure to host Army and the Shore AC athletes as they add a nice dimension to the meets. 

The Army Prep men ran the 8k course and Sean Robinson lead the way for the Black Knights with a time of 30:13.  Travis Griffin finished in 30:30.  Ben Ordiway toured the course in  30:42, while Blake Boyd finished in 31:31 to round out the Black Knight harriers.  The Army Prep women ran the 5k course and were lead by Ariel Espinoza-Levy in a time of 24:33.

The Black Knights will close out the 2007 Cross Country season this Saturday 10 November when they host the Shore AC.  The men and women will all run 5k on Fort Monmouth.  The action will commence at 1100 hours.

Saturday 10 November, 2007--The Army Prep Black Knights closed out the 2007 Cross Country season with a 5k run on Fort Monmouth over the Veteran's Day weekend.  The weather was cool and the rain moved out at race time making the conditons tolerable for our season ending meet.  Only one runner showed from the Shore AC, but the Black Knights covered their business with several PR performances. 

Leading the way for the Army Prep men was Blake Boyd with a PR of 15:59.  Travis Griffin placed second with a time of 16:26.  Ben Ordiway finished 3rd covering the course in a PR of 16:40.  Sean Robinson toured the course in 17:18 to take 4th place honors.  Rounding out the top five Black Knight harriers was Dexter Booze.  The Detriot, Michigan native finished in 5th place with a time of 17:31.  The Army Prep women were led by Ariel Espinoza-Levy's 1st place finish with a time of 24:02 and Mekeba Jeffcoat's second place finish in 25:26. 

The 2007 XC season was very rewarding for the team and coaches.  I want to thank the team for their hard work, team chemistry, and dedication throughout the season.  This is a fine group of young athletes/soldiers that will continue to do well as we move into the Indoor and Outdoor Track seasons.  As always, thanks for your support of Army Cross Country!
