WELCOME TO ARMY PREP FOOTBALL
USMAPS Football Class of 2006

In July, 40 recruits from 18 states across the United States arrived at USMAPS in Fort Monmouth, NJ to further their own talents and the foundation of the Army football program. The USMAPS campus welcomed the class with newly renovated classrooms, athletic facilities, and housing facilities. The recent improvements completed a three year project totaling nearly $25 million.

Quick to work following summer military training, the USMAPS team opened with 2 wins in their campaign versus top junior colleges and prep schools in the East. Dropping 3 of the next 5 games in overtime or the final seconds, the group finished their season with 4 wins and 7 losses. Competition against teams like Hargrave, Fork Union, Navy, and Valley Forgeproved valuable in developing the group for their future schedules in the ensuing years highlighted by games against Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and Penn State.

As the Army Black Knights varsity team completed their 2005 campaign with victories in 4 of their final 5 contests, the young “prepsters” carried this program momentum into the USMAPS offseason training. Gains were abundant as 17 athletes improved their maximum bench press 30 lbs. or more. Explosive exercises resulted in 27 players increasing their vertical jump by 3.5” or more. The excitement of an intense offseason competition between Offense and Defense came down to the final week and points, resulting in a narrow victory for the Offense. This competition was highlighted by multiple events consisting of a variety of skills and challenges including the infamous “Truck Push.”

By completion of the academic year, nearly 15% of USMAPS football program participants will have had the great distinction of being selected to the Dean’s List or Academic Honor Roll. The triad of academic, athletic, and military challenges of West Point will meet the strength of preparation as the “prepsters” arrive on the banks of the Hudson this summer. Although their first chapter will come to a close, the bonds formed are foundations for a successful team the next four years and relationships beyond.
