CPT Vann

CPT Zac Vann joined the USMAPS staff in April of 2006 fresh off of his second deployment to Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.  He graduated the United States Military Academy in May of 1997 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry.  He has a broad infantry background.  As a Lieutenant, he served as a rifle company platoon leader and rifle company executive officer in the 101st, and executive officer Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Company 75th Ranger Regiment.  As a Captain, he served in a number of positions in the 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized) prior to his arrival to USMAPS.  He was an assistant maneuver plans and operations officer during the initial invasion into Iraq.  After his first deployment to Iraq, he was the BN Logistics Officer for 3-15 IN prior to assuming command of C/3-15 IN in May of 2004.  He commanded C/3-15 IN (which was reflagged as A/1-64) through an intensive train-up and deployment to Iraq in January of 2005.  In September of 2005 he was selected be the G3 Deputy Chief of Training for the 3rd Infantry Division and maintained that position until reporting to USMAPS to become the Bravo Company Tactical Officer.

 

CPT Vann’s military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Ranger School, Air Assault, Heavy PZ/Slingmaster, Jumpmaster, Infantry Captain’s Career Course, Mechanized Leader’s Course, and the Combined Arms Service Staff School.  His awards and decorations include: the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, parachutist badge, air assault badge, ranger tab, bronze star with one oak leaf cluster, meritorious service medal, army commendation medal with one oak leaf cluster, army achievement medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, the presidential unit citation, national defense service medal with bronze star, Iraqi campaign medal, global war on terrorism expeditionary medal, and the global war on terrorism service medal.
