WIN
ARMY PREP VS. ASA
3-2

Fort Monmouth, N.J. – The Army Prep Black Knights had their first game of the season against ASA Thursday afternoon. Army Prep pulled off a nail-biting victory 3-2.

ASA came off of an overtime game the night before to face the Black Knights. With fresh legs, Army controlled the run of play early on. Mike Kim played a ball through to John Moon who passed the ball into the back of net.

Army held together for the next ten minutes, but could not keep ASA from counter-attacking and scoring an equalizing goal at the 24th minute. As the half dragged on, John Moon dribbled into the box and drew a penalty kick. Mike Kim caught the goalie guessing and finished the PK easily in the opposite corner.

Following the goal, John Moon was sent off with a red card after challenging for a fifty-fifty ball in the air around the 30th minute.

Coming out for the second half a man down, the Black Knights played tough defense but kept up the attack. ASA maintained possession most of the half but did not necessarily dominate play.

The Black Knight defense, anchored by Giancarlo Salazar, fought hard against the ASA attack. Despite the tough defense, ASA took advantage of a long ball over the top and beat the Army keeper to even the score.

But the Black Knights did not roll over. Following the ASA goal, Army attacked right off the kick-off and worked up the left wing. Mike Kim beat an ASA defender and rocketed a 25 yard shot into the side netting.

For the last 20 minutes of the game, Army fought hard to keep the ball out of its half. Ryan Currens came off his line several times to rob the ASA attackers.

After what seemed like an eternity, the referee finally ended the game. Both sides played hard under a lot of fatigue. The tough Army style kept the Black Knights on top and sealed the victory.

LOSS
ARMY PREP VS. BROOKDALE CC (scrim)
3-1

Fort Monmouth, N.J. – The Army Prep Black Knights soccer team opened its season with a scrimmage against the Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues with a 3-1 loss. The game was a seesaw battle for the entire game.

The contest opened up with both sides playing strong defensively. Neither team had a great look at goal until midway thru the game. Robert Glover, Dan Sandoval, Giancarlo Salazar, and Jordan Cayton all played well as a unit to keep the ball out of our defensive third.

The Black Knights opened up the scoring with a spectacular set play. Michael Kim chipped the ball over the wall to John Moon who placed the ball into the side-netting with a diving header.

Brookdale was quick to counter. Within minutes, Brookdale crossed the ball from the end-line into the 6 yard box to equalize with an easy finish.

The scrimmage went well overall despite the score line. All the Black Knights saw playing time. For some, this was their first organized game. The Black Knights host Middlesex at noon on September 6th here at Fort Monmouth.
