Penn Relays
26-APR 2008

Philadelphia, PA --The PENN RELAYS really are a special experience for our Track athletes. The meet is very competitive and the fan attendance is awesome. The weather turned out to be just as awesome all 3 days. That and the competitive environment of the relay carnival lend very well to good performances.

The Army Prep women started things off on Thursday (23,000 track fans) with the Prep School Independent 4 X 100 relay team of Shevonn Damper, Robin Felder, Meg-Ann Braun, and Forrest Russell. The women took 6th place honors in a season best time of 53.38.

Later that afternoon, the Prep School Independent 4 X 400 relay team of Shevonn Damper, Robin Felder, Forrest Russell, and Meg-Ann Braun took 6th place honors in a season best time of 4:26.29. The reigning record holder in that event is the Army Prep team of Jayna Tangen, Ebony Thomas, Stephanie Schoeneman, and Lesa Boyd. That quartet set the record in 2006 with a time of 4:05.80.

Friday (37,000 track fans) the Army Prep men were up in the Prep School Independent 4 X 100 Relay.

The Black Knights team of Mike Hutchins, Antuan Aaron, Jesse Witt, and Ramon Slater took runner up honors getting the baton around the track in 43.72. The foursome received PENN RELAY silver medals for their efforts. The Track program would like to thank the Football program for their support of Autuan Aaron helping make us competitive in this “big time” environment.

The Black Knight men were up again Saturday (50,000 track fans) in the Prep School Independent 4 X 400 Relay. The team of Ramon Slater (49.28), Jesse Witt (49.39), Dexter Booze (54.10), and Mike Hutchins (49.41) ran the 4 lapper in 3:23.72 to take championship honors. This performance was awesome as it was clearly our best times of the season and nearly broke the event record of 3:22.49. For their efforts, the foursome received PENN RELAY gold medals.
