LOSS
West Point Prep vs. Passaic CC
54-51

Paterson, NJ – The West Point Prep Women’s Basketball team squandered a 14-point second half lead as they dropped their season opener at the hands of Passaic Community College.

West Point Prep raced out to an early 12-3 and seemed to be in control into the second half.  The Black Knights stretched its lead to 44-30 with 10:38 left to play but couldn’t come up with key defensive stops down the stretch as Passaic ended the game on a 24-7 run.

Passaic’s press forced the tempo and caused the Knights to turn the ball over on critical possessions.  The Black Knight lead was cut to six as Passaic knocked down back to back 3’s to with 5:29 remaining.  Defensive rebounding and turnovers were the two areas that hurt the Black Knights late in the game.

Jessica Waggoner led the Black Knights and tallied her first career double-double as she notched 21 points and collected 12 rebounds.

Deneka Williams chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.  Chrystal Christian and Shantel Crichlow each contributed six points.  Crichlow added five steals and three assists.

The Black Knights enjoy a week-long layoff before returning to action against Edison Job Corps next Thursday.  Tip time is set for 6pm.
