Army Prep Wrestling 2007-08

Carl Whitley

Ht: 5’11½”

Wt. Class: 184/197

A native of Merritt Island, FL, Whitley is one of our three prior service athletes, who brings a abundance of knowledge to the team.  Carl brings a lot of energy to the team, and has a very colorful personality.  He gets along well with others, and has a very quick wit.  On the mat, Carl has made big strides so far, and we look to him to continue his improvement as the season progresses.  His double leg takedown has improved drastically, and should catch some people by surprise this season.

Carl got to know his teammates very quickly, and has formed strong bonds with them that will only become stronger.  In addition, Carl has gotten stronger; both from his focus on lifting in the weight room, as well as repeatedly dropping for push-ups each practice.  Aside from gaining knowledge in wrestling and making close friendships, by the end of the season, Carl may be a push-up master.

Personal:  Carl Lee Whitley.  Birthday is 24 April 1987.  Whitley lists getting a college degree and becoming an Army Officer as his main reasons for attending military academy.  Carl lists wining a match and becoming comfortable with shooting as his wrestling goals for the season.  Academically, he is striving to make solid grades and refreshing on things he has forgotten during his time in Army Service.
