Derek Stanley

Stanley comes out of Saugerties, NY where he attended Saugerties High School.  While at SHS, Derek qualified for the New York State Wrestling Tournament and did some damage to his opponents on a regular basis.  Academically, he graduated 12th out of 230 students, and received the RPI Medal.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society.  Derek has a great attitude and never seems to let things get the best of him.  He is a solid worker on the mat, and has the ability to scramble out of some of the toughest situations one can imagine.  His grip strength is super-human, which helps him tie up the wrists of his opponents. 

Derek should make a run at the NCWA National Championship this season, and will be a difficult opponent for the unfortunate people on the Black Knight schedule this season.  In addition to his skills on the mat, Stanley has shown great poise in the classroom.  So far, he has blown away his academics, and looks to make it a trend throughout this year and beyond.

Personal:  Derek Peter Beck Stanley.  Birthday is 3 August 1989.  He lists wrestling and the civil engineering program as his main reason for attending the military academy.  His favorite athlete is Olympic gold medalist, Rulon Gardner.  Derek says his favorite thing about wrestling is being one on one.  Derek lists making close friends, preparing for a successful collegiate wrestling career, and establishing himself as a good wrestler and personable guy as some of his goals.  Academically, Derek would like to make the Commandant’s List throughout the year.  Derek would like to one day have a big family.
