Mission –
The mission of the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS) is to provide focused academic, military, and physical instruction in a moral-ethical military school environment in order to prepare and motivate candidates for success at the United States Military Academy (USMA).
Vision –
o Provide a challenging academic, physical, and military experience to fully prepare the cadet candidates for success at the United States Military Academy.
o Provide a professional military environment focused on the development of the seven Army Values – Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
o Maintain a quality faculty dedicated to personal growth and to providing an exciting and innovative curriculum to the students.
o Graduate cadet candidates committed to a career as an officer in the U.S. Army.
Goals with Supporting Objectives –
Graduates: Our graduates have the intellectual, physical, and moral foundation to be successful as members of the United States Corps of Cadets and as commissioned officers in the United States Army.
o USMAPS graduates achieve success rates in Plebe year academics (math and English) consistent with direct admits.
o USMAPS graduates graduate the Academy at a rate consistent with direct admits.
o 100% of USMAPS graduates pass the CBT APFT.
o The number of USMAPS graduates investigated for Honor, Respect, and major conduct violations is proportionally lower than that of direct admits.
Staff and Faculty: Maintain a highly qualified staff and faculty committed to the development and success of the cadet candidate.
o Provide sufficient TDY funds and opportunities for the professional growth of the Staff and Faculty.
o Recruit and retain a faculty committed to personal academic growth, as evidenced in research, professional presentations, the pursuit of advanced academic degrees, and strong commitment to teaching.
o Attract the highest quality officers and noncommissioned officers whose recent experiences broaden the development and growth of the cadet candidate.
Curriculum: Provide a challenging program that fully prepares the cadet candidates for the intellectual, physical, military, and ethical challenges of the Academy and officership.
o Through frequent interaction with USMA, maintain an academic program that is synchronized with the West Point academic program and builds the fundamental skills necessary for academic success.
o Remaining cognizant of national trends, continue to improve, modify, and update the academic curriculum in order for it to remain exciting and relevant.
o Establish a robust Values Education Team (VET) program focused on the Academy’s bedrock values of Honor and Respect.
o Leveraging the expertise of the Battalion Tactical Department and other military personnel assigned to USMAPS, maintain a comprehensive military science program focused on an introduction to the Army.
o Utilize participative learning by including the insights, experiences, and feedback of our students in curriculum design.
Facilities: Maintain and improve the USMAPS’ infrastructure to provide a positive environment for the successful execution of our educational, physical, and military development programs.
o Seek and obtain outside funding (ODIA, AOG, Fort Monmouth garrison, etc.) to maintain and improve existing facilities.
o Aggressively manage a comprehensive facilities maintenance program that ensures the highest quality of life for the cadet candidates.
o Using the standards established at USMA, continue to modernize classroom facilities.
