Admissions : GeneralAdvice

GENERAL ADVICE

You may officially apply to West Point starting January of your junior year in high school. If you meet the minimum academic standards, you will be notified that you are now an official candidate and you will be given instructions on how to complete the remainder of your online application at the beginning of your senior year. You should be sure to manage your application carefully, paying special attention to deadlines for both the application and your individual congressional nominations. It is important to build an admissions strategy that incorporates what you need to get done with the time you have.

PREPARE YOURSELF NOW

  • Continue to challenge yourself academically.
  • Take the SAT and/or ACT multiple times.
  • West Point combines the highest math and verbal scores from either test to evaluate your competitiveness.
  • Ensure you train for the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA). Instructions are located here.
  • Continue to prepare physically for West Point. The Department of Physical Education has an overview and strategy guide to help you get ready. To view it, click here.
  • Seek out leadership opportunities e.g., team captain, class president, Eagle Scout/Gold Award, et.
  • Read our FAQs page and explore any books, documentaries, and magazines you can find to determine if West point is right for you; you may find the answers to questions you did not know you had!
