Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I get tickets for the dinner in the Cadet Mess if I register after March 1st?

A: No. Dinner in the Cadet Mess is only available to those registering before March 1st.

Q: How do I contact the Conference Organizing Group?

A: Send e-mail to Dr. Led Klosky at il7354@usma.edu

Q: Do the Friday workshops require a special registration or additional fees?

A: No. The Friday workshops are for the most part sponsored by West Point and are thus free to all registered participants.

Q: What is the potential impact of the current national security situation on this conference?

A: At this time, West Point is open for official business only. All persons entering must present a photo ID, and their vehicles are subject to search. This is a higher level of security than is common for West Point, and there is no change likely by the time of the conference. There is always the possibility that national or international events will necessitate a change in post security. It is therefore essential that we have good contact information for all participants so that we can notify you if there is any security-related information that you need to know.

Q: What is your cancellation and refund policy?

A: Until March 22nd, 2002, if you need to cancel your registration for reasons beyond your control, a refund of your registration fee, less money already expended by the committee on your behalf, will be made. Except in exception circumstances, no refund will be available after March 22nd. In the unlikely event that the conference is cancelled for reasons related to national or West Point security, the conference will refund all unexpended funds to registrants. In this circumstance, if conference proceedings have already been produced, you will be provided with a copy of the proceedings.

Q: Is it true that the United States Military Academy was the first institution in the U.S. to offer a formal program of instruction in engineering?

A: Yes.

Q: Do you offer a guest program for the family of registrants?

A: Yes. People buying a Full Registration may purchase a Guest registration for members of their family. The guest registration will include meals with the conference participants on Saturday and a tour of West Point originating at the conference site. We will publish a final program for the Guest registration once we know how many people register for that program. MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER AS A GUEST BEFORE MARCH 1, 2001, AND THAT YOU BUY ANY TICKETS FOR DINNER IN THE CADET MESS, AS THAT MEAL IS NOT INCLUDED!

Q: Two of my students are presenting. Are there any student rates for registration, or could I include them as guest?

A: Students who are only participating in the Student Presentation Competition on Friday DO NOT need to register. If they wish to attend the dinner on Friday night, the cost is $10. Students ONLY may contact Dr. Klosky (il7354@usma.edu) prior to March 29th to let him know if this is your intent. You will pay at the door. If students wish to attend the technical sessions on Saturday, they DO need to register for full conference rate (although, as per web page, this doesn't include Friday's dinner). There are no student rates, but housing is provided for students on request.

Q: How will Student Lodging be arranged?

A: Students can lodge in the Barracks with Cadets for Friday night. We need to compile a complete list of those students seeking lodging with a cadet sponsor by 1600 on 12 March. Mid-Atlantic Section schools can forward your information to MAJ Todd Dellert (it6817@usma.edu) directly. New England and St. Lawerence Section schools must forward the required information to Dr. Botosani (pbotosani@fair1.fairfield.edu) and Dr. Stratton (j_stratton@cast-fc.rit.edu) respectively. They will compile and forward to MAJ Dellert. This list must include the last name, age and sex of each student seeking lodging. MAJ Dellert will compile the list and assign sponsors. The intent is to have a cadet meet each visiting student upon signing in for the conference. These details will be worked out. There is a possibility that all students lodging with cadets will have all belongings screened by metal detectors. More to follow on this. Bottom line, do not bring any weapons of any sort with you.
