West Point Conducting Workshop About the Workshop ¦ Registration ¦ Transportation April 1-3, 2013 with Eugene Corporon, Regents Professor of Music, University of North Texas Lt. Col. Jim Keene, Commander/Conductor, West Point Band West Point Concert Band Applications must be postmarked by January 25, 2013. Applicants should include a completed application form and a DVD to include two contrasting styles of conducting and repertoire. Graduate students with teaching experience and new university assistant professors are strongly encouraged to apply. Four participants will be selected to conduct in the workshop and two will be selected as alternates. Alternates will have the opportunity to conduct in rehearsal but will not perform in concert unless one of the participants is unable to conduct. Auditors are encouraged to attend all sessions but will not receive conducting time with the band. During the first days of the workshop (April 1st and 2nd), each participant and alternate will rehearse the West Point Concert Band and receive coaching from both Mr. Corporon and Lt. Col. Keene. These coaching sessions will be open for observation by all attendees. Podium time will vary from 40 minutes to 70 minutes depending on the assigned repertoire. Additionally, there will be clinics with Mr. Corporon conducting the West Point Band and addressing various conducting and rehearsing challenges. Participants will receive a DVD recording of their sessions with the band. The following evening (April 3rd), each participant will have the opportunity to conduct their assigned literature in concert with the band. This workshop is free and open to all participants and auditors as well as to the general public. Participants and auditors are responsible for the cost of their lodging, meals, and transportation.
