SGM Lynn Cunningham
Flute

Sergeant Major Lynn Nicole Cunningham has been a member of the USMA Band since 1980. She is currently the principal flutist and concert band NCO-in-charge, and has been a frequent soloist with the band.  SGM Cunningham holds an masters degree in flute performance from Arizona State University, and a bachelors degree in flute performance from the University of Wisconsin.  She is also a free-lance musician and private flute instructor.  She has held faculty positions at Arizona State, Nyack College, and SUNY New Paltz.

Lynn lives in Cornwall with her son.  Her hobbies include travel, cooking, hiking, running, and wine tasting.

MSG Julie Ditzel
Flute

Master Sergeant Julie Ditzel received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, located in her native Nashville, Tennessee.  Prior to joining the U.S. Military Academy Band in 1990, she worked as a free-lance musician and clinician.  Since arriving at West Point, MSG Ditzel has performed as a soloist with the band on several occasions, to include a solo performance at the National Flute Association Convention in 1996.  Her teachers have included Jane Kirchner, Julius Baker and Trudy Kane.  MSG Ditzel is currently the principal flutist of the Newburgh Symphony Orchestra and free-lances throughout the Hudson Valley region.

SSG Diana Powers
Flute, Piccolo

Staff Sergeant Diana Powers, from Shelby, Ohio, joined the Academy Band in July of 2006.  She previously served as principal flute with The United States Army Field Band at Fort Meade, Maryland.  She appeared as flute and piccolo soloist with the Field Band on five national concert tours and was featured at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, the Ohio Music Educators Association Conference and the National Flute Association Convention in Washington, D.C.  SSG Powers has performed with the Annapolis Symphony, Baltimore Lyric Opera Orchestra and the Choral Arts Society of Washington, and has been the piccolo soloist of Keith Brion’s New Sousa Band since 1997.  A prize-winner in the Central Ohio Flute Association Young Artist Competition, National Flute Association Masterclass Competition, Pappoutsakis Flute Competition and numerous concerto competitions, she received music degrees from The Ohio State University and the Longy School of Music, studying with Katherine Borst Jones and Robert Willoughby.
