SSG Craig
Bitterman Staff Sergeant Craig Bitterman is from Buffalo, NY. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in performance from SUNY Buffalo and relocated to Connecticut to pursue a Master of Music degree also in performance from the Hartt School of Music. After completing graduate studies, Bitterman free-lanced in the New England area and taught percussion at Holyoke Community College, Wesleyan University and Hartford Conservatory. Performance highlights include appearances with Nebojsa Zivkovic and the Jovan Perkussion Projekt; Maelstrom percussion ensemble; June in Buffalo new music festival; Ankara new music festival; Full Force Dance Theatre; Steelsunrise Steelband and worked with composers Steve Reich, David Felder, James Tenney, Lou Harrison and Amy Williams. Bitterman has recorded under hat(now)ART, mode, EMF, Yesa, Malletjazz and Whitewater labels. SSG Nathan Eby Staff Sergeant Nathan Eby is originally from Redlands, California. Prior to arriving at the Academy Band in September of 2007, he earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Music in Music Performance from California State University and University of California-Los Angeles, respectively. He is currently working towards a Doctorate in Musical Arts at UCLA. Staff Sgt. Eby has held numerous prestigious performing positions, including assignments with the Rhythm Slam Percussion Ensemble and the touring productions of Shockwave and CyberJam. SSG
Alexander Frederick Staff Sergeant Alex Frederick came to the Academy Band from the Los Angeles area in February of 2005. Before arriving at the band, Alex was the first call substitute for the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 2001 to 2004. During that time, he played under Pierre Boulez, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Zubin Mehta, John Williams, Michael Tilson Thomas and many other prominent conductors. Staff Sergeant Frederick performed in the opening concert of the revolutionary Walt Disney Concert Hall, which was broadcast nationally on PBS. In 2000, Alex taught Business English at the Deutsche Verkehrsbank in Frankfurt, Germany. From 1994 to 1999, Staff Sergeant Frederick served as a percussionist with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony. Prior to his tenure there, he performed as a percussionist with the West Virginia Symphony. SSG Eric
Garcia Staff Sergeant Eric Garcia is from Hendersonville, Tennessee. He received his Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University and a Master of Music from Cleveland State University. Prior to joining the band, Eric performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Northshore Chamber Orchestra, the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, the Youngstown Symphony and the West Virginia Symphony. His percussion teachers include Bill Wiggins, Michael Burritt, James Ross, Paul Wertico and Tom Freer. SSG Rone
Sparrow Staff
Sergeant Rone Sparrow is originally from Fairfield, California. He
earned a Bachelors degree in percussion performance and pedagogy from
Brigham Young University (1997) and a Masters degree in percussion
performance from The University of North Texas (2000). While at
North Texas, SSG Sparrow taught percussion methods classes, directed
percussion ensembles, instructed in the percussion studio, and was the
coordinator for the UNT Green Brigade drum line. SSG Sparrow's
diverse freelance career includes performances with The Mormon Tabernacle
Choir, Sundance Summer Theater, The Drifters, The Jerry Floor Big Band and
The Walt Disney Corporation. SSG Sparrow joined the USMA Band in
August 2002 and has been featured with the band on steel pans, piano and
mallet percussion. |
