SFC Stephen Luck
Trumpet

Sergeant First Class Stephen Luck, joined the Military Academy Band in 1984 as a bugler in the band’s field music group, the Hellcats.  He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with the principal trumpet player of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Frank Kaderabek.  Originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, SFC Luck has performed in organizations throughout the Hudson Valley, including the Hudson Valley Philharmonic.

SFC Eric Miller
Trumpet

Sergeant First Class Eric Miller is a native of Sioux City, Iowa and earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa.  He continued his musical studies at Indiana University prior to coming to the United States Military Academy Band in 2002.  While at Indiana, he held the position of Associate Instructor as a graduate student.  Eric also holds a Master of Arts in organizational leadership from Duquesne University.  He has been a featured soloist at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and can be heard on The Nadas album Coming Home.  Eric has also performed throughout the United States and Europe, including the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), the North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland) and throughout Hungary.

SFC Bryan Uhl
Trumpet

Sergeant First Class Bryan Uhl is from Danbury, Iowa and joined the USMA Band in November of 1997.  Originally a member of the field music group, he was lead trumpet player in the Jazz Knights and now plays in the Concert Band.  He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Iowa State University and a master of music degree from the University of North Texas.  He plays regularly with the Westchester Broadway Theater Orchestra in Elmsford, New York and maintains an active free-lance schedule throughout the Hudson Valley.

SSG Derek Lance
Trumpet

Staff Sergeant Derek Lance joined the United States Military Academy Band in the fall of 2005.  He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and recently completed graduate studies at the Juilliard School in New York.  He has studied with Philip Collins, Frank Kaderabek, David Bilger and Mark Gould.  Lance is a member of the New York Staff Band of The Salvation Army and is frequently featured as a soloist, recently performing on their tour of Sweden, Norway and Denmark.  He has also performed with the New York Philharmonic and the New Jersey Symphony.

SSG Luke MacDonald
Trumpet

Staff Sergeant Luke MacDonald, from Great Falls, Montana, holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts from the University of Oklahoma where he studied under Dr. Karl Sievers.  He earned a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Vincent Penzarella of the New York Philharmonic.  Prior to joining the Hellcats in 2005, SSG MacDonald performed at a variety of music festivals including the 2005 Moscow Easter Festival (Russia), 2003 & 2004 Verbier Music Festivals (Switzerland) and the 2003 Salzburg Easter Festival (Austria) where he worked with the Berlin Philharmonic.  He has toured Europe and Asia extensively, having performed dozens of concerts with the Verbier Festival Orchestra as principal trumpet.  He won prizes at the 2001 through 2004 National Trumpet Competition (USA) including first place in both the Solo Performance Master’s Division and the Quintet Division. SSG MacDonald has performed numerous concerts with the New York Philharmonic and many other professional orchestras in and around New York City.  In addition to orchestral work, Luke enjoys playing in the quintet Happy Hour Brass, as a founding member.

SSG Carla Moebius
Trumpet

Staff Sergeant Carla Moebius joined the United States Military Academy Band in August of 2007.  She received a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University, and has held classroom and private teaching positions in Indiana, Illinois and in Washington, D.C.  She received her Master of Music in trumpet performance from the University of Maryland where she served as an adjunct faculty member in instrumental education.  Staff Sgt. Moebius also served as the administrator for the Maryland Boys Choir and lead singer and trumpeter for Retrospect, a Washington, D.C. based dance/variety band.  Her trumpet teachers include Edmund Cord and Chris Gekker.
