SGM Eric Sheffler
Ceremonial Drum

Sergeant Major Eric Sheffler is a native of Kansas.  He returned to the Academy Band in January of 2002 serving as a Rudimental Drummer in the Hellcats.  Beginning in the summer of 2004, SGM Sheffler assumed the duties of Drum Major.  He previously served in the Hellcats from 1983-1994 and was the assistant drum major of the marching band as well.  While away from West Point, SGM Sheffler completed his Masters Degree in Percussion Performance at Pittsburg State University.  He also taught classes in percussion techniques, applied percussion, music fundamentals, basic conducting, wind ensemble, and marching band.  Additionally, SGM Sheffler is an adjunct faculty member at Marist College and a freelance percussion arranger for competitive marching bands throughout the Midwest.

SSG William Calohan
Ceremonial Drum

Staff Sergeant William Calohan joined the Hellcats in August of 2005.  In 2002 he received his Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he studied with C. William Rice, Dr. Todd Johnson and Dr. Michael Overman.  He completed his Master of Percussion Performance at the University of Minnesota in May of 2005.  His teachers there were Fernando Meza and Earl Yowell.  As a graduate student, SSG Calohan taught percussion lessons and the percussion techniques course for undergraduate music education majors.  SSG Calohan also attended the Leigh Howard Stevens summer marimba seminar, and performed at PASIC 2004 with Rolando Morales-Matos.  He was the winner of the 2001 Virginia Music Teachers Association concerto competition.  He has performed under Frederick Fennell, Dr. Barry Kolman, Craig Kirchhoff and Dr. J. Patrick Rooney.  SSG Calohan has instructed and arranged music for high school marching bands and has also worked as a freelance percussionist in Virginia and Minnesota.

SSG J. Andrew Porter

Staff Sergeant J. Andrew Porter joined the United States Military Academy Band in May 2005.  Prior to his appointment, SSG Porter taught percussion for J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas, and general music and band in the Barren County School District in his home state of Kentucky.  He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Music in percussion performance from Louisiana State University.  His primary teachers include Dr. Christopher S. Norton, Dr. Michael G. Kingan, Timothy K. Adams, Jr. and Conrad Alexander.  SSG Porter has performed with the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Natchez Opera Festival, the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps and the Music City Mystique indoor marching percussion ensemble.  SSG Porter is also a member of the West Point Percussion Group.

SSG Jeff Prosperie

Staff Sergeant Jeff Prosperie joined the Hellcats in December of 2006.  In addition to his duties as a rudimental snare drummer Jeff also performs with the USMA Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band and on occasion with the Concert Band.  Before coming to West Point, SSG Prosperie served as director of percussion studies at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette where he taught lessons, percussion ensemble, drum-line, African Drum and Dance, Steel Band, Brazilian Samba, Afro-Cuban, Indonesian Gamelan and Japanese Taiko.  Jeff also performed as principal percussionist with the Baton Rouge Symphony, Acadiana Symphony, Natchez Opera, Garland and Los Colinas Symphony as well as extra percussion with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  Jeff is a former World Snare Drum Champion having won the Drum Corps International, Percussive Arts Society International and Drum Corps Mid-West Individual solo competitions.  Jeff is also a former winner of both the Percussive Arts Society Orchestral Snare Drum Competition and Mock Symphony Audition.  Jeff received his Bachelor's in Music Education from Lousiana StateUniversity, Master of Music from the University of North Texas, and has completed all course work for the Doctoral Degree from the University of North Texas.  SSG Prosperie is a former percussion arranger and caption head for the DCI World Champion Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and currently serves as a championship level adjudicator for DCI and the Percussive Arts Society.  Jeff has marched in the snare lines of the Bayonne Bridgemen, Phantom Regiment and Star of Indiana.  SSG Prosperie has peformed, judged, and provided clinics throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan including Percussive Arts Society International Conference, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Midwest Band and Orchestra clinic.  SSG Prosperie's DVD/Book Aptitude:  A Conversation in Snare Soloing published by Drop6 Media received the highest ranking of the very rare perfect "10" from Modern Drummer Magazine declaring it to be a classic.  Jeff's teachers have included: Doug Howard, Dr. Robert Scheitroma, Dr. John Raush, Marty Hurley, Dr. John Wooton, Dennis Delucia, Pat Petrillo, Loretta Andry, Ed Soph, Leigh Howard Stevens, as well as lessons with Jim Ross, Patsy Dash and Mark Yanchich.
