1LT Dae Kim
Deputy Commander

First Lieutenant Dae Kim is currently Deputy Commander and Associate Conductor of the United States Military Academy Band, West Point, New York. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1st Lt. Kim is a graduate of Temple University, from which he holds Bachelor and Master of Arts in Music degrees, having studied conducting with Luis Biava, Arthur Chodoroff, and Timothy Oliver. While at Temple University, 1st Lt. Kim was conductor of the Col Legno Chamber Winds, as well as associate conductor of the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.

An accomplished clarinetist, 1st Lt. Kim has performed under many noted conductors, including Christoph Eschenbach, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Leonard Slatkin. Solo and festival appearances include the Academy of Music, Aspen Music Festival, and the National Orchestral Institute. His principal teachers were Samuel Caviezel and Ronald Reuben.

1st Lt. Kim’s military training includes the Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate; Basic Officer Leader Course, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and the Army Band Officer Course, Little Creek, Virginia. His most recent assignment was as Executive Officer of the Army Ground Forces Band, Fort McPherson, Georgia. While stationed there, 1st Lt. Kim also served as director of the Wind Orchestra at Georgia State University.
