The National Colors
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress passed the
first Flag Act, "That the flag of the thirteen United
States be made of thirteen stripes, alternately red and white;
that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field,
representing a new constellation." Subsequent Congressional
Acts and Executive Orders have brought the National Colors
to its present arrangement.

The U.S. Army Flag
The Army flag was unfurled to the public on 14 June 1956,
the 181st anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Army
by the Continental Congress in 1775. The design
includes the original War Office seal in blue, "United States
Army" inscribed in white letters on a scarlet scroll,
and the year "1775" in blue numerals below. The streamers
denote campaigns fought by the Army.
