International Week Celebration

For almost two hundred years, West Point graduates have contributed to the development of other scientific educational institutions in the United States; charted the rivers and harbors of both the east and west coasts of America, as well as the newly opened lands of the movement and the frontiers of space. Graduates have undertaken and completed essential engineering projects, not only in America, but also in Central and South America, Europe, and Asia, building railroads, highways, lighthouses and flood control structures.

In its first century of existence, many of its graduates became involved with other countries of the world by invitation of Heads of State, serving in the capacities of Advisor to, or in some instances, as Commander of developing military commands. During the second century, its graduates began their first civic assistance projects in developing nations, improving the living conditions of their people.

Countries where West Point graduates have served in peace and war have been encouraged to participate in the Bicentennial celebration. Some of the commemorative acts which have been offered by governments are proclamations and letters from foreign heads of state, chiefs of Armed Forces and heads of foreign military academies.

There are some seventy (70) countries which the International Committee have been in contact for commemorative acts to acknowledge the United States Military Academy's Bicentennial.

The spirit of the Bicentennial is "to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the United States Military Academy by celebrating its contributions to the Nation and the peoples of the world." The Corps of Cadets and graduates of West Point hope you will join the celebrations.
