Prot. n. 463/010.270/VRome, 15 March 2002

Dear General Lennox, on behalf of the Italian Army, it is a great honor to address our best congratulations to the cadets and staff of the United States Military Academy of West Point on the commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of its founding.

The Military Academy has educated generations of Officers to the rigorous life of the military leader. Those men and women gave - and they are giving - their unique contribution to the preservation of the ideals of peace, democracy and freedom wherever threatened in the world. In this day and age these ideals are in danger because of new threats such as the international terrorism: an insidious evil that our Armies are facing together. May your motto "Duty, Honor and Motherland" be our beacon-light in this new storm and may the heroes that graduated in West Point, military or not, be the pathfinders towards the final victory.

I wish the United States Army centuries of success and I wish to pass my best compliments to the United States Military Academy for the 200th year of outstanding service to its Country.

Yours sincerely ??.
