The attention of the organizing committee for the ceremony
commemorating the bicentennial of the creation of
the United States Military Academy (West Point)
Subject: Congratulations
On 16 March 2002, the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point will
proudly celebrate the bicentennial of its founding with a truly glorious affair. It will be a
ceremony that will remind all of the distinguished graduates of this great and famous military
institution of the route traveled since 16 March 1802; it will pay homage to its graduates, to all
who s'instruisent pour vaincre¹, to all men and women who have so proudly carried forth
everywhere - especially on so many fields of battle - the flag of the United States of America.
On the occasion of this momentous occurrence, please allow me to present, in the name
of all the officers, cadets of the Royal Military Academy, and myself personally, the most sincere
expression of our warmest congratulations.
Please allow us to share in your joy, your great cheer, and the justly deserved satisfaction
that you exhibit when you commemorate this historic and exceptionally symbolic event.
We seize upon this opportunity to congratulate us all on the excellent relations
maintained between our two Military Institutions² and our two Armed Forces.
Signed: Mohammed Belhaj
¹ "They learn in order to win" is also the motto of the French Military Academy of St. Cyr.
² Only three foreign institutions have been awarded the French Legion of Honor: West Point, the US Naval
Academy, and the Royal Military Academy of Morocco.
