Bicentennial Music Subcommittee
Music activities during the Bicentennial:
- Concerts
- Veterans Day- (11 Nov 2001) Lisner Auditorium,
Washington, D.C. Bicentennial concert performed by The US Army
Band (Pershing's Own) will highlight the music of West Point.
- Carnegie Hall- (15 Mar 2002) New York City
Bicentennial concert performed by the USMA Band, Cadet Glee Club,
the USMA Hellcats and the Herald Trumpets. Traditional West
Point music and Bicentennial music commissions will be featured.
- Other concerts to be scheduled at Eisenhower Hall,
West Point, will feature new music written especially for the
Bicentennial celebration.
- Music Commissions
- Two dozen composers have committed to write new music in
honor of the USMA Bicentennial. Twelve compositions have
already been completed as of November 2000. A Bicentennial
composition contest received 83 entries from all over the world.
The winner will be announced in 2001 and the work will be
performed on one of the Bicentennial concerts.
- Recordings

The USMA Band produced a CD of marches and West Point
parade music. The Hellcats are also featured on the recording.
Additional CDs may be issued in the future. CDs are available
at retail stores at West Point ( AOG Gift Shop, Visitors Center, Cadet Book Store).
- National/International Performances
- The Army Special Bands (USMA Band, The Army Band (Pershing's Own),
US Army Field Band) will highlight the USMA Bicentennial and
West Point music on national and international tours.
