Coach Ray Barone
Ray “Coach” Barone retired honorably as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army after almost 21 years of service as a combat arms Officer. In August 1999, he was employed as the Director of Boxing at the United States Military Academy, West Point.
Since his arrival, Coach Barone has worked to make the Fourth Class Boxing Program a valuable, safe experience for cadets. In November 2004, he completed a doctorate in education from Columbia Teacher’s College and soon thereafter became a certified Level IV USA Boxing Coach.
Under his tutelage as head coach, the West Point boxing team has produced numerous All-Americans, individual collegiate boxing champions, and has won the team National Collegiate Boxing Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013.
Coach Barone served as an assistant coach when Team USA boxed Ireland in August 2002 and England in November 2004. Coach has completed the Master Teacher’s program at West Point, won the Brigadier General Anderson Award for Excellence in Teaching, was selected as the 2009 West Point Club Coach recipient of the Mike Krzyzewski ‘Teaching Character Through Sport Award’, and has received Coaching Certification from the Champions of Character Program.
In August 2010, he was selected to coach the USA Youth Boxing team in the inaugural Youth Olympics held in Singapore. In 2011, Coach Barone was chosen as the first collegiate Boxing Coach to receive the American Association for the Improvement of Boxing (AAIB) Coach’s award for excellence.
Additionally, he has worked with the Special Olympics, mentored cadets in the Honor Mentorship Program, Served on the USMA Teaching Committee, taught Professional Military Ethics (PME) to cadets, and has served as a member of the Board of Education for the Tuxedo School District for the past ten years.
SSG Dave Walik
SSG Walik began his coaching career at West Point in 2013. His previous duty positions include Platoon Sergeant, HUB-Base-Band Node Team Chief, Information Systems Staff NCO and Senior Data Systems Integrator. SSG Walik is an Information Systems Specialist and his assignments include; C CO, DSTB, MND-B 4th Infantry Division Fort Hood, TX where he deployed twice in support of OIF 3 and OIF 09-10, 690th Rapid Port Opening Element at Ft. Eustis, VA. SSG Walik is currently assigned as the Senior Data Systems Integrator for the Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis at West Point. He has completed WLC, ALC, SLC, Combat Life Saver Course, MACP Level I & II.
MAJ Robert Peterson
MAJ Peterson commissioned as an Infantry Officer through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Feb 2004 and has deployed three times: Hurricane Andrew Relief (1993), Operation Iraqi Freedom III (2005) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2009). His assignments include service as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Infantry Company Commander in combat and listed in order are: Enlisted Soldier 82 ABN DIV, Fort Bragg, NC (1991-1993) with a deployment to Hurricane Andrew Relief in South Florida (1992). All Army Wrestling Team (1992-1993), Platoon Leader, 2PLT A CO 1-30 IN, 3 BDE 3 ID with an OIF III deployment in (2005), Executive Officer A CO 2-54 IN, OSUT, ITB, Fort Benning, GA. All-Army Wrestling Team (2007). Company Commander D CO 2-54 IN, OSUT, Fort Benning, GA. Company Commander HHC 2-14 IN, 10th MTN Div, with an OIF deployment (2009). He is currently assigned to the Department of Physical Education and serves as a Boxing Instructor, a PE450 Instructor, and an Operations Officer.
CPT Brent Chapman
CPT Chapman enlisted as a Signals Intelligence Analyst and served with the 314th Military Intelligence Battalion until he was appointed to the United States Military Academy class of 2009. CPT Chapman is a Telecommunications System Engineer (FA24) and Signal Officer who most recently served with 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2010 to June 2011. CPT Chapman is a graduate of the Signal Officer Basic Course, Signal Captain's Career Course and Telecommunications Systems Engineer Course. CPT Chapman is currently assigned as a Research Scientist in the Army Cyber Institute and Instructor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. CPT Chapman was a member of the Men's Boxing team from 2005-2008.
