Lieutenant Colonel Rapheal Joseph Hamilton is a native Kansan raised in Leavenworth, Kansas and graduated from Leavenworth High School. Following his graduation from Emporia State University (Emporia, Kansas) as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1995, LTC Hamilton received a Regular Army commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. In 2004, LTC Hamilton career field designated Functional Area 45 (Army Comptroller) and in 2011 transferred to the Financial Management branch.
LTC Hamilton has attended the U.S. Army Airborne Course, the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Army Comptroller Course, Intermediate Level Education, and Military Transition Team training.
LTC Hamilton commanded Alpha Company, 70th Engineers at Fort Riley, Kansas and has served in engineer and comptroller positions on battalion, brigade, and Army staffs. In 2008, LTC Hamilton served as the J8 Chief of Strategic Plans and Programs for the Multi-National Security Transition Command - Iraq.
LTC Hamilton’s academic education includes a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (Summa Cum Laude) from Emporia State University, a Master of Business Administration, a Master in Arts of Public Administration, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) from Syracuse University. LTC Hamilton is a Certified Public Accountant (Kansas) and a Certified Defense Financial Manager and is one of ten national recipients of the 2007 Elijah Watts Sells Award.
LTC Hamilton’s current assignment is the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership (BS&L) where he serves as the course director and instructor for the department’s financial accounting and managerial finance courses.
LTC Hamilton’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), the Army Commendation Medal (3rd award), the Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (2nd award), the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
