Current Faculty Research

“Water Vulnerability and Mass Violence” – Dr. David Frey, Dr. Amy Krakowka, Dr. Robert Goldstein & Dr. Charles Thomas. Detail about this multi-disciplinary faculty/cadet research project can be found here.

“Human Rights, Espionage, and Holocaust Memory in Hungary, 1945-1953” – Dr. David Frey. This study focuses on Hungarian responses to US and international accusations of violations of human rights charters, and investigates ties between previously unacknowledged espionage, questions of rights and justice, and mobilization of Holocaust memory. Dr. Frey will be in Budapest during the Fall of 2012 doing archival research on this project.

“Ordinary Soldiers: A Case Study in Ethics, Law and Leadership for Tomorrow’s Officers” – Dr. Waitman Beorn, COL (R) Jody Prescott, Dr. David Frey, Ms. Gretchen Skidmore & Ms. Jennifer Ciardelli. This article, lesson, and packet of supplemental materials is specifically designed for military audiences. It uses the actions and experiences of the 1st Battalion, 691st Infantry Regiment, of the German Wehrmacht, performing rear area security duties in the first week of October 1941, in occupied Belarus. By examining responses of specific company commanders to eliminate Jews in their respective areas of operations, “Ordinary Soldiers” raises a host of legal, ethical, psychological, and historical questions of immediate relevance to today’s officers.

Detail about this AFRICOM funded, network science-based historical study can be found by clicking here.
