<span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">The West Point Center for the Rule of Law (CRL) plays a vital educational role in promoting respect for the rule of law—during peacetime and armed conflict. Located within West Point’s Department of Law, the Center educates current and future leaders of our Army and our nation, emphasizing: </span><ul class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e"><li>the principles underlying the Law of Armed Conflict</li>
<li>their own critical roles as officers and commanders in upholding the military justice system</li>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">James V. Kimsey is a native Washingtonian. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, and studied at Georgetown University on an honors scholarship. He served three combat tours as an airborne ranger, two in Vietnam, earning various awards for service and valor. In July 2005, Mr. Kimsey was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame, which recognizes our nation’s most extraordinary Rangers. In 2008, Mr. Kimsey received the Distinguished Graduate Award for Outstanding Service to the Nation from the US Military Academy at West Point.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">Mr. Kimsey is best known for creating the largest company ever started in the Washington, DC area – America Online, Inc. He currently serves as Chairman Emeritus. Mr. Kimsey left AOL to focus his energies on philanthropy, and in 1996, he launched the Kimsey Foundation which provides grants that benefit the Washington, DC community in areas from arts to education.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">Over the years, Mr. Kimsey has received numerous entrepreneurship awards. He received Presidential appointments to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees and the West Point Board of Visitors. In 2001, Secretary of State Colin Powell named Mr. Kimsey as Chairman of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), an organization dedicated to identifying hundreds of thousands of missing from conflicts and natural disasters around the world, through DNA research. Mr. Kimsey also serves as Chairman Emeritus of Refugees International, an independent advocacy group which works to protect refugees and end the cause of displacement. He also serves as a member of the board of the International Crisis Group, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Business Executives for National Security, and as a Senior Fellow to the Department of Defense Business Board. He serves on the Executive Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">The Kimsey Scholar Program is an initiative to provide students from the military academies the opportunity to interact on a personal level with some of the most accomplished leaders in the country.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">Cadets and Midshipman nominated by the four military academies will be considered to participate in the program.</span></div>
<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">The ten students selected for the Kimsey Scholar Program will spend three weeks working as an intern for: the Supreme Court, the White House, the State Department or other equivalent highest echelon office of the federal Government. These internships will be administered under the United States Military Academy’s Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD) Program.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">In addition to their work within the federal offices, the students will participate in three colloquia with national leaders from the federal government, senior military leadership or civilian business leadership. These leaders will be handpicked by Mr. James Kimsey, founder of the Kimsey Foundation.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">The Kimsey Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to education and headquartered one block from the White House, is proud to fund this unique lifetime experience for future military officers. Mr. Kimsey, a graduate of the United States Military Academy, is a firm believer in the critical importance of excellent leadership in the success of any human endeavor. He trusts in the military academies to be the primary source for our nation to develop exactly this type of leadership to face the problems of tomorrow. Through this program, he plans to introduce a select few students to proven leaders not just from the military realm that they are familiar with, but to the leaders in the civilian government and business that are just as critical to the success of our nation.</span></div>

<div style="text-align:justify"><span class="ms-rteThemeFontFace-2 ms-rteFontSize-2" style="color:#1e1e1e">The benefit of these internships and colloquia to Kimsey Scholars is invaluable. Great things will be expected of every one of them and the program intends to track their accomplishments both within and outside the military.</span></div>
