A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Command Sergeant Major David M. Clark enlisted into the U.S. Army in November 1984.
Command Sergeant Major Clark attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as a Combat Engineer (12B) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Command Sergeant Major Clark has held numerous Leadership positions including Team Leader, Squad Leader, Operations Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Senior Drill Sergeant, Senior Battle Staff Instructor, First Sergeant, Chief of Drill Sergeant School, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Brigade Command Sergeant Major, and most recently as the 4th Infantry Division Command Sergeant Major.
He has served with the 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Division (3 tours), 4th Infantry Division (2 tours), and the 25th Infantry Division. He is a graduate of the Primary Noncommissioned Officers Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Battle Staff Course, Drill Sergeant School, Sapper Leader Course, Air Assault Course, First Sergeant Course, United States Army Sergeant Major Academy, and the Command Sergeant Major Course, Force Management Course, Keystone Course, Legal Orientation Course and The Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Troy University and master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University.
Command Sergeant Major Clark has participated in Operation Desert Storm with the 10th Engineer Battalion, 3rd ID as a Squad Leader, Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 with 317th Engineer Battalion, 3rd ID as the First Sergeant, Operation Enduring Freedom V with 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th ID as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Operation Iraqi Freedom V with 3rd BSTB, 25th ID as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom as the 18th Engineer Brigade Command Sergeant Major and Operation Enduring Freedom as the CJTF-4/RC South Command Sergeant Major.
Command Sergeant Major Clarks' awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device and four Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal (10th award), National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Sapper Tab, the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal (Silver), and German Armed Forces Badge (Silver). He is also a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
Command Sergeant Major Clark is married and has four children.
