The primary goal of the Portuguese club is to provide an out-of-class environment in which cadets can gain an understanding of the fascinating Portuguese and Brazilian cultures, reinforce language skills, and enjoy a feeling of comraderie. The Portuguese club participates in several activities designed to expose members to the wonders of the Brazilian and Portuguese cultures. Some members vacation in Portugal while others go to Brazil. Still, other members interacte with these communities around New York through wreath-laying ceremonies commemorating Brazilian Independence Day, or through Brazilian performances at the NJPAC and Carnegie Hall. In addition, the club added trips to the Guggenheim museum to observe the Brazil: Art, Body, and Soul exhibit. The club also meets weekly during optional dinner in order to develop communication skills through table interaction, often followed by a Portuguese movie night in Washington Hall. Despite these wonderful activities, the best part of the Portuguese club is the familial feeling that brought us together for some great times, usually at Brazilian restaurants.
