Description

On Monday, 28 March, Professor Aviva Chomsky, Professor of History and the Coordinator of Latin American, Latino and Caribbean Studies at Salem State University, gave a lecture to the 560 cadets and faculty of EN302 (Advanced Composition) in Robinson Auditorium. Her riveting talk, which highlighted her experiences with the Cuban people, greatly enhanced the students’ understanding of Cuba’s rich, yet complex and often misunderstood culture, history, and politics. Dr. Chomsky’s discussion, coupled with a presentation of Cuban images, focused on the history of the Cuban Revolution, José Martí, noteworthy for his numerous contributions to Cuba’s fight for independence and unity, the evolution of Cuba’s multiple economic systems at work, and how her own experiences in Cuba helped to shape and inform her understanding of the intriguing island. During her visit, Professor Chomsky also dined with EN302 faculty and their families and observed an EN302 class section.
