What It Means to Work in DMI:
DMI Mission: The Department of Military Instruction trains, educates and inspires the Corps of Cadets in the foundational military competencies necessary to win in a complex world by providing sequential and progressive military training and leadership development experiences to develop cadets into commissioned leaders of character who embrace their roles as United States Army officers and for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army.
DMI focuses its efforts primarily in two places: instruction of Military Science and Defense and Strategic Studies during the academic year and field training for cadets during the summer. Every officer and Non-Commissioned Officer can expect to teach Military Science during the academic year and support field training during the summer. Additionally, officers and NCOs can expect to serve in any of the following key leadership positions:

Who DMI Hires:
DMI primarily hires all incoming officers through the Advanced Civil Schooling (ACS) program. We will likely have a few direct hire positions each year and will therefore continue to look for highly qualified personnel directly from the force. We will require an advanced degree for potential candidates in this category in addition to a strong record of military performance. DMI will continue to hire NCOs directly from the force. There is no advance degree program established at this time for incoming NCOs.
DMI values diversity and looks to hire from a variety of backgrounds and branches as most positions are Branch Immaterial (01A) and Combat Arms Immaterial (02A).

Qualification: All Officer Positions are CPT/MAJ fills in YG 2004-2011, all NCO positions are SFC/MSG fills.
Assignment length: Minimum of three years including one year ACS with a maximum of four year total when combined with one year ACS.

All candidates desiring consideration as an Academic Year 2018 (summer 2017 ACS) hire must have their W.E.S.T. file complete NLT 15 FEB 16.
Annually, DMI has the ability to allocate up to a total of two officers and/or Non-commissioned officers to attend ELDP at Columbia University. These officers and/or Non-commissioned officers are selected from those already serving in DMI. The intent behind this opportunity is to provide DMI with a planner(s) to facilitate academic course integration of the military programs across military science and training. If selected, the individual will attend ELDP at Columbia in an assigned cohort in the summer of 2016.
· AR 621-1 Training of Military Personnel at Civilian Institutions
DMI requirements to apply:
· Must have at least one year remaining on station following the completion of ELDP.
· IAW AR 621-1 3-3 f. Minimum academic requirements. Completed Baccalaureate Degree with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.
o If an officer holds more than one completed baccalaureate degree, the highest GPA will be considered.
o Minimum Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is 153 verbal, 144 quantitative and 4.0 (analytical), and for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) minimum score must be 500.
o Waivers may be granted by CG, HRC (AHRC–OPL–L), on a case by case basis for examinations or GPAs, but not both.
o Test results must not be more than 5 years from the date tested. (Provide copy of transcripts and test score results).
· No derogatory information in personnel file.

The Defense & Strategic Studies (DSS) program under DMI also has approximately 2-3 ACS opportunities annually in a variety of disciplines that support their mission to teach cadets the following courses:

The hiring board for ACS candidates takes place throughout the month of December with notifications to the officer NLT early February.
Final Note and additional resources
Note 1: Resident ILE is a critical planning factor for those interested in pursuing ACS and teaching at USMA. In most cases, ILE deferments have been approved to ensure officers complete at least a two year utilization at USMA, however this is not guaranteed.
Note 2: If not chosen for ACS, candidates are still encouraged to compete for a Direct Fill position.

· Master of Public Policy (MPP): The MPP is two-year, multidisciplinary program designed to meet the needs of individuals desiring a strong background in the political and economic dimensions of governmental policy-making, particularly those who plan a career in public- or private-sector policy analysis and management. MPP students receive training in research methodology, statistics with computer applications, economics, policy process/implementation as well as political theory and values.
· Master of International Development Policy (MIDP): A MIDP degree equips today’s future leaders in development with the essential technical and analytical skills necessary to make a positive difference in the world. A degree for professionals with experience in development or related fields, the MIDP delivers skills in evidence-based policy-making within a broad, multidisciplinary curriculum.
· Master of Policy Management (MPM): A MPM degree equips policy leaders with essential management and analytic skills that allow them to meet policy management challenges. A degree for professionals with significant practical experience, the M.P.M. hones and integrates their talents to enhance effectiveness in the policy world. The McCourt School provides committed policy professionals with the theoretical foundation and practical tools they need to make a difference.
· Executive Master of Policy Leadership (EMPL): The EMPL is an advanced degree for currently employed, high achieving professionals with seven years of work experience in the policymaking arena who want to learn more about management and leadership in a public context. The degree addresses executive-level skills, with attention to many of the Executive Core Qualifications for the Senior Executive Service, identified by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. The EMPL is a graduate program that allows students to develop leadership skills and knowledge to address public policy issues and problems.

Yale Jackson Institute for Global Affairs
The Jackson Institute for Global Affairs promotes education and scholarship on global affairs at Yale. We serve the entire university through courses and core teaching programs in global affairs, career counseling, and public lectures. Our mission is to inspire and prepare Yale students for global leadership and service.
We are the home of the Master’s Program in Global Affairs, a Master of Advanced study in Global Affairs and the undergraduate major in Global Affairs. Our academic programs are interdisciplinary, embedded in Yale and designed to help students gain a comprehensive understanding of global affairs. We work to strengthen coverage of global affairs throughout Yale’s curriculum and offer a number of courses that serve all Yale students, including "Gateway to Global Affairs".
· Master’s Program in Global Affairs: The Jackson Institute’s M.A. in Global Affairs (International Relations prior to Fall 2013) prepares students to impact the global community through an academically rigorous yet flexible interdisciplinary program. Our students continue the University’s tradition of attracting creative, intellectually curious individuals who come to Yale ready to define their own path to a career in global leadership and service. The M.A. in Global Affairs requires two years of graduate study at Yale. To complete the degree, students must take 16 courses which include three core requirements. Students must also demonstrate a functional or area concentration as well as proficiency in a modern language.
· Master of Advanced Study in Global Affairs (M.A.S.): The Master of Advanced Study (M.A.S.) in Global Affairs is a one year program for mid-career professionals. Created in 2013, the program is small by design, with only a few admitted students each year. The M.A.S. is aimed at professionals with extensive experience in a field of global affairs such as, but not limited to, international security, diplomacy, and development.
o Qualifications: Applicants will have a minimum of seven years of professional experience. Applicants should show superior professional qualifications and evidence of ability to succeed and thrive in a rigorous multi-disciplinary academic program. Students in the Master of Advanced Study in Global Affairs may not be considered for, or transferred into, the Jackson Institute’s two year M.A. program.
