Questions/Comments/Concerns

3. What to do when you arrive:

West Point is a United States Army installation that enforces 100% identification verifications and security checks for all personnel wishing to enter the premises. Thus, it is important that you are properly prepared. Once you are on campus, you will be directed to specific areas DMI has set up for the competition. Below are some notes and tips for your visit:

  • Keep some sort of identification on you at all times

  • Bring lots of water and hydrate before the competition

  • Be prepared for inclement weather (wet, cold, or hot weather)
    The Weather Channel

  • Be prepared to have your vehicle searched if your vehicle does not have any military identification tags

  • Enter through the main entrance (Thayer Gate)

  • Tell the Gate Guards that you are there to watch the Sandhurst Competition

  • You will be directed to park at A Lot.

  • From A Lot you will board a shuttle bus that will take you to the site of your choice or to Daly Field where you will find directions to the Sandhurst Visitor's Booth, located at the Gen. MacArthur Statue. Maps will be distributed at Thayer and Stony Lonesome Gates starting at 0500 that will assist spectators with site selection.

  • Personnel at the Sandhurst Visitor's Booth will provide you with all the information you will need for the competition (including maps and information that will best guide you to following the teams through the course). Maps will also be available at West Point gates and Visitors Table located in A Lot.

4. Following the teams and watching the competition:

Starting at A LOT, there will be shuttle buses circulating the sites for anyone that wishes to observe the teams. Using your POV is authorized around the sites and West Point, but you must understand that you and your vehicle will be subject to security inspections every time you enter any of the gates. You may also experience some parking difficulties both at the sites and in the parking lots on campus. It is of your own prerogative to choose which mode of transportation you would like to use on the day of the competition, but we recommend using the shuttle buses.
