 How Do I Apply?

Each January, DPE conducts a Selection Board that chooses officers to join our team. We select potential instructors approximately 18 months prior to their start in graduate school.  Now is the time to begin compiling and submitting your packet for the January 2010 Selection Board. To determine if this board meets your career timeline, take a look at where you are now and how you fit into DPE's timeline:

Application Deadline - 1 Dec 2009

Selection Board - Jan 2010

Begin Grad School - May/Jun 2011

Report to USMA - Jun 2012 

Depart USMA - Jun 2015

The primary year groups of interest for the Jan 2010 Board are YG03 and YG04. Some officers from YG05 may also fit into the timeline for this board... applicants must be branch qualified prior to beginning grad school.

To complete your application, you must submit a USMA interest form that will create an on-line account via the WEST system.

You must post the following documents to your WEST system account: 

a.  Officer Record Brief
b.  All Officer Evaluation Reports & Academic Evaluation Reports
c.  Letters of Recommendation (3) (address to COL Gregory L. Daniels, Director, Department of Physical Education, USMA, West Point, NY 10996)
d
.  University Transcripts
e .  GRE Scores (must be within 5 years of the start of graduate school)
f .  Copy of APFT Scores (as many as possible)
g .  Resume including a background in physical education/sports (bullet format)
h .  Short Essay -  at a minimum answering the following questions:

(1)   Why do you want to be a DPE instructor at USMA?
(2)   What unique strengths would you contribute to enhance the Department, specifically what committees do you think you are best suited to enhance and why (military gymnastics, boxing, aquatics, and/or combatives)?
(
3)   As a DPE Sport Educator, for which types of intramural programs do you think you are best suited to enhance our competitive sports program?
(4)   What are your long-term goals, and how does a teaching assignment in DPE contribute to those goals?
