Combative Program Mission

The mission of DPE's combatives program is to develop a foundation of skills, knowledge, strategies, attitudes, and affect management that prepares soldiers to engage and defeat an enemy in hand to hand combat.

SCOPE - FOURTH CLASS BOXING, PE 116

Fourth Class Boxing, PE 116, is Phase II of the Combatives program. Boxing is a 19 Lesson course in which the offensive and defensive skills of amateur boxing are taught. Course content includes stances, movement, basic punches (i.e. jab, cross, hook, and upper cut), defenses, strategies, and tactics.  Instruction on refereeing, judging, and serving as a corner second are presented.  Men are evaluated, assessed and provided feedback on their ability to box.  The course exposes men to the coping strategies necessary to deal with physical threat.

PURPOSE

The purpose of Boxing is to put cadets in a fearful situation ( a one-on-one confrontation), give them the tools to cope with that situation (offensive and defensive boxing skills) and see how they react.  Fear management, perseverance and the will to win are fostered through the boxing experience.  These are essential qualities of the combat leader.
