DPE - Advanced Sport Development

MISSION:
The mission of ASD is to provide an opportunity for cadets to develop as leaders of character through participation in advanced sporting activities that promote skill development, cognitive development and an appreciation for physical activity. The ASD PIAD is a two-week training program, which includes two phases:
Phase I (Mon-Fri): Home-station training program: Applied Sports and Fitness
as well as National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) Basic SCUBA.
Phase II: (Sat-Sat): Florida Keys training: Training and
Certification in NAUI
Advanced and Specialty Diving.
ASD OBJECTIVES:
ASD participants will:
Demonstrate competency in applied aerobics, muscular fitness, sports physiology and SCUBA.
Apply aerobic, muscular fitness and sports physiology concepts and principles to the understanding and development of personal fitness.
Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior in an advanced sport setting.
Demonstrate an understanding of and respect for differences among cadets in an advanced sport setting.
Demonstrate sound judgment, emotional control and teamwork (as a leader and follower) in an advanced sport setting.
Demonstrate risk assessment skills in an advanced sport setting.

THE S.C.U.B.A. EXPERIENCE
Successful graduates earn the following NAUI certifications:
NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver

NAUI Specialty Diver - Enriched Air NITROX Diver
NAUI Specialty Diver - Underwater Environment

| French Reef | http://www.divespots.com/scuba/spotID-79/view.divespot | Many ledges, tunnels, caves, and swim-throughs are located here making for great hiding places for some of the "invisibles" such as eels and lobsters. |
| Pickles Reef | http://www.divespots.com/scuba/spotID-34/view.divespot | Site of a boat wreck carrying pickle-barrels filled with cement during the civil war. The underwater sand channels make this a great site for navigational practice. Also, some of the keys largest barrel and basket sponges can be found here. |
| Snapper Ledge | http://www.divespots.com/scuba/spotID-147/view.divespot | As the name suggests, schools of yellowtail snapper roam here frequently. In addition, this reef also boasts one of the keys largest healthy brain coral specimens. |
