PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

            Administrative and Teaching

Faculty Development Coordinator, Department of Physical Education, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Responsible for developing professional development programs for the department.  

Academic Program Director, Department of Physical Education, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Responsible for supervising the DPE Academic courses, Introduction to Wellness, Personal Fitness: Applied Physiology for the Army, and Unit Fitness courses. Serve as the course director of the Military Movement (Gymnastics) Course.

Director of Competitive Sports, Department of Physical Education, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, 1994-2000. Responsible for supervising twenty-two competitive club coaches and the Cadets-in-Charge of the fourteen sport intramural program (over 3,000 students participate annually). Annually review and interpret policies and regulations pertaining to this sport education program. Founded and conduct the annual “Sportsmanship and Fair Play Conference” at USMA for all West Point varsity coaches, club coaches, team captains and the Academy senior leadership.

COMMANDER’S AWARD FOR CIVILIAN SERVICE, For service to USMA as Chair of the “Character Development” committee for Middle States Accreditation, 1997-1999.

Chair of the USMA Competitive Sports Assessment Committee, 1999-00. Responsible for a goals-based assessment of competitive sports at the varsity, club, and intramural levels.

Chair of the Brigadier General James L. Anderson Award Committee, 1999-2000.

Responsible for selecting the outstanding physical education faculty members in the areas of teaching and cadet development.

Committee on Teaching Excellence, USMA, 1994-2000. This USMA-wide committee focuses on strategies to enhance instruction in all thirteen academic departments at West Point.

 Values Education Team (VET) - Permanent senior member, 1997-02. Guide   and mentor the seniors who teach the “honor and professional ethics” classes to the underclass.

Chair, Physical Fitness Assessment Committee, Department of Physical Education, USMA, 1996-1998. Involved planning and assessing the new physical fitness test for the department.

Curriculum Committee, Department of Physical Education, USMA, 1994-2002. Involves planning and assessing the curriculum for the department.

Academy Professor Search Committee, 1998-1999. Served on the committee which selected DPE’s two permanent Academy Professors, LTC Daniels and MAJ Germain who are currently in doctoral programs.

Merit Pay Committee, Department of Physical Education, USMA, 1994-1996. Developed and implemented a merit pay plan for faculty based on the five faculty domains.

Elected Member of the Faculty Council, USMA, 1994-96.

Department of the Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, 1995. Awarded for service to USMA for planning, organizing and conducting the Brigade Open Boxing Championships. Coordinated this six month project with TV (ESPN2) and numerous agencies at USMA.

Chair, Constitution and By-Laws Committee. New York State AHPERD. Responsible for interpreting and re-writing the constitution, AY 2000-03.

Learning Standards Educator for New York State, Goals 2000. Responsible for conducting New York State Learning Standards workshops for physical education teachers, 2000-01.

Chairperson of the Bernard E. Hughes Recognition Award Committee, New York State AHPERD.1998-2000.

Service to National AAHPERD - Member of Board of Peer Reviewers for the Refereed Physical Education Journal “Strategies,” 1995-2002.

Program Planner for Higher Education, New York State AHPERD Conference, 1998-2002.

            Member of the Editorial Board of the Physical Educator. 1999-03.         

Service to the NCAA - Member of the Regional Selection Committee to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships. Committee ensured the proper selection of the top collegiate gymnasts in the Eastern United States for the NCAA Division I National Gymnastics Championships, 1989.

Service to the United States Gymnastics Federation  (National Governing Body)

Coordinated the National Gymnastics Team Training Camp for the United States Gymnastics Federation. This training camp was for the top eighteen male gymnasts in the nation. Coordinated the four-day training camp which included United States Olympic Team Members and the National Coaching Staff.

Service to the United States Gymnastics Federation, Coordinated International Gymnastics Competition - United States vs. France, 1987.

Certificate of Achievement - Awarded for studying Physical Education and Sport in the Soviet Union. Participated in a three-week course at the "Institute of Sport and Physical Culture in Moscow." This is the top University in the former Soviet Union for Physical Education teachers. Moscow, USSR, June 1982.
