THE ALTERNATE APFT
10K BIKE TEST
1.
The 10K Bike Test (alternate APFT) consists of push-ups (2 minutes),
sit-ups (2 minutes), and a 10K bike event.
2.
The test events are performed in the following sequence:
push-ups, sit-ups, 10K bike.
3.
The test must be completed within one hour after beginning the initial
test event. A minimum rest period
of 10 minutes must separate test events.
4. The test
administrator must ensure that the cadet testing is on a valid Cadet Medical
Excusal (CME) that authorizes him/her to take the bike test.
5.
Bike Set-Up.
a.
Prior to beginning
the test, the cadet must adjust the seat and handlebars to their preferred
height.
b.
Begin pedaling to
ensure the screens illuminates and pedal enough to generate 0.1 Km distance to
confirm an operational screen.
c.
While pedaling, the
test administrator ensures that the bicycle ergometer resistance is set at 2.0
kps for men and women, by aligning the pendulum bar accordingly.
d.
While the screen is
still illuminated, the cadet places their feet in the middle portion of the bike
and does not touch the pedals. The
test administrator then resets/zeros the bike screen prior to starting the test.
6.
Test Execution.
a.
Foot straps will not
be utilized during the bike test.
b.
You cannot use your
hands to press on your legs to assist in the test.
c.
You cannot stand up
during the test; the cadet testing must keep their buttocks on the seat.
d.
The test
administrator must ensure that the cadet testing make a continuous effort to
continue pedaling; if not, the screen will turn-off.
e.
The test
administrator should maintain a secondary watch to keep time.
f.
As the test is
conducted, the test administrator will make small adjustments to maintain the
proper resistance of 2.0 kps.
g.
The test is complete
when 10 Km distance has been achieved.
The test administrator then records the time it took to complete this
distance.
