COL Shoop is a Signal Corps officer selected as Professor, USMA in 2007. His military assignments include Science Advisor to the Director and Chief Scientist of the Joint IED Defeat Organization, Chief of the Afghanistan Military Academy Implementation Support Team, Senior Electronics Engineer at the U.S. Army Foreign Science and Technology Center, and Electronics Engineer for the Defense Satellite Communication System Earth Terminal. At West Point he has served as the Electrical Engineering Program Director and the Director of the Photonics Research Center. COL Shoop is a graduate of U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Naval War College. His research interests include optical information processing, neural networks, and smart pixel technology. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Optical Society of America (OSA) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of ABET Inc. COL Shoop is a Fellow of the OSA and the International Society of Optical Engineers (SPIE), as well as a Senior Member of the IEEE.
