MAJ Abbott-McCune enlisted as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle Mechanic and was assigned to 4/7th Infantry, Aschaffenburg, Germany; 4/3 Air Defense Artillery, Kitzengen, Germany and was selected for the Army's Green-to-Gold Program. He was commissioned from Virginia State University as a Signal officer and was assigned to 2-8th Infantry, Fort Hood, Texas as the S-6 / Battalion Signal Officer. After completion of the Signal Captains career Course and CAS3 he was assigned as the Battalion S-1, 307th Signal Battalion, Waegon, Korea; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander, 307th Signal Battalion; 229th Tactical Signal Company Commander, Waegon, Korea; Deputy J-6 / Communications Officer, Special Operations Korea, Seoul, Korea.
