CPT Joshua Groen received his commission from the ROTC program at Arizona State University as an Armor Officer on December 15th, 2007 and was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea. There he served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in Blackfoot Troop, 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment. His next assignment was with the 25th Infantry Division in Anchorage, Alaska. There he served as a Platoon Leader in Apache Troop and as Executive Officer of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment (ABN), deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Khost Province, Afghanistan from NOV 2011-JUN 2012. In 2012 CPT Groen voluntarily transferred to Functional Area 26A, Telecommunications Systems Engineer. His first assignment as an FA26A was with 50th Signal Battalion at Ft. Bragg, NC where he served as the Battalion Network Systems Engineer. Following that assignment, CPT Groen attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI where he earned a M.S. in Electrical Engineering. CPT Groen is currently serving as an Instructor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the United States Military Academy.
CPT Groen's military education includes the Armor Basic Officer Leader Course, US Army Airborne School, US Army Air Assault School, US Army Pathfinder School, Telecommunications Systems Engineer Course, and the Signal Officer Advanced Course.
CPT Groen is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
