CPT Matthew Sherburne received his commission from the United States Military Academy as a Signal Officer on May 26th, 2007 and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.  There he served as a Platoon Leader in A Company, 82nd Division Special
Troops Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division as an Assault Command Post Platoon Leader as part of the Global Response Force capable of no-notice, world-wide strategic deployment by parachute assault within 18-hours of notification from 2008 through the deployment of
the unit to RC-East, Afghanistan, Combined Joint Task Force-82, Operation Enduring Freedom X as a Traffic Terminal Platoon Leader. Upon redeployment in April 2010, CPT Sherburne assumed duties as the Battalion Communications Officer with 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.  During this time the unit was on the GRF rotation and later deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn.  The unit was among the last to leave Iraq in December, 2011. CPT Sherburne then attended the Functional Area 24 - Telecommunications Systems Engineer Course at Fort Gordon, GA and then the Signal Captains Career Course graduating as the Distinguished Military Graduate.  CPT Sherburne is currently serving as an Instructor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the United States Military Academy.
 
CPT Sherburne's military education includes the Basic Officer Leaders Course, Signal Officer Basic Course, Signal Captains Career Course, the FA24 - Telecommunications Systems Engineer Course, the US Army Airborne School, and the Sabalauski Air Assault School.
