MISSION:

Administering the Military Retirement
The Retirement Services Office (RSO) is responsible for administering the retirement program. An RSO serves two populations -- the active duty soldier and family preparing for military retirement and the retired soldier and family who reside in their area.

VISION:

The objective of the Army Retirement Services Program is to help retired soldiers and active duty personnel form a partnership of cooperation, understanding and commitment to make the Army community a better place for all members of the Military.

The transition from active duty to retirement is guided by the RSO. In regularly scheduled group pre-retirement briefings and one-on-one retirement counseling sessions, the RSO answers the soldier's and family's questions on retired pay, health care, SBP and other benefits. The RSO's job is to assist the retiring member and family members in learning about their earned benefits. RSOs also serve the soldier and family after retirement by helping them resolve pay, medical claims, ID card issues and other benefit problems.

The Army's commitment to the soldier continues when active duty ends just as the soldier's commitment to the Army continues. In return for active Army support, retirees and family members live up to the motto, "US Army Retired -- Still Serving." Retirees and their families devote many hours of their time as volunteers, serving in Retirement Services Offices, hospitals, post exchanges and commissaries, Army Community Services and other services. They contribute many dollars to our Morale, Welfare, and Recreation programs through their patronage of commissary, exchange and MWR facilities. Also, the wealth of experience of retirees and their families makes them a valuable information source for those serving on active duty or those considering active duty. By encouraging young people in their communities and families to consider the military life, they serve as adjunct recruiters.

Since 1993, retired soldiers have outnumbered active duty soldiers. Support for this growing population comes from the Army Retirement Services Office, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, which receives administrative support from The Adjutant General Directorate.

The Army Retirement Services Office manages a program serving more than 1.5 million retirees and family members. It oversees the retirement program; the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP); the Army Chief of Staff's Retiree Council; is the Army liaison for the Armed Forces Retirement Homes and publishes Army Echoes, a quarterly bulletin for Army retirees and their families.  http://www.armyg1.army.mil/rso/mission.asp
