Bruce B. O’Neill, USMA ’82:  Bruce B. O’Neill entered West Point from Clinton, New York in July 1978 as a member of the Class of 1982.   A talented long distance runner in high school, Bruce was a member of the West Point Cross Country team during his plebe year, but found a new first love while running the hills of West Point – Orienteering.  Orienteering became Bruce’s passion.  From his yearling through his firstie years (1979-82), Bruce O’Neill was a multiple meet award winner and consistently stellar performer on the nationally-prominent West Point Orienteering Team.  He was cadet co-captain of the team during his firstie year (1981-82).  Commissioned as an Army Engineer in May 1982, Bruce O’Neill served on active duty in Korea and Washington State before resigning from the Army in 1989.  From 1991 until his untimely death in August 2007, Bruce combined his orienteering-inspired love of the wilderness and sport as an Engineer with the New York State of Environmental Conservation in Albany.   In memory of Bruce O’Neill’s service to his country and his undying love for West Point Orienteering, his classmates and friends are proud to sponsor this Cadet Orienteering Award.
