This non-recurring staff ride will follow the Allied assault on Sicily during World War II, generally following the narrative in Rick Atkinson's Day of Battle. Cadets will begin the planning phase during the first weeks of Spring semester, with regular IPRs scheduled in January, February, and March.
Staff ride participants (10 USMA cadets) will leave West Point and fly to Italy on March 11th. The first four days will be spent traveling through Sicily, stopping in Siracusa, Agrigento, and Gela. The final three days will be spent at the Naval Air Station in Sigonella, with trips to Mount Etna and Taormina. Finally, one day will be spent in Milan during the return trip to New York. Attendees will return to West Point on March 19th.

Letters of recommendation from former history professors are encouraged, and letters from outside the History Department are acceptable if the cadet has not yet taken a history course at West Point.
